Return To Ferry Beach, Maine Summer Destination

After the passing of our dog one of our first family outings was Ferry Beach! It’s a quintessential Maine summer destination. It took me a couple of weeks before I really wanted to get out and have fun. But it got to the point of feeling shut-in and cut-off. I have a tendency to be a bit of an introvert anyway. Sometimes I really have to push myself out. Even though it was an overcast, breezy day we decided to try the famed Maine beach again because there wouldn’t be crowds of people.

The kids enjoyed it despite the gray skies. There were a few sparse shells, loads of seaweed and the occasional leftover crab leg droppings from the gulls that garnered an ,”ew,” from our oldest. I imagine at low-tide you’d find more treasures. The lack thereof shells didn’t bother the kiddos though. They began tossing and more or less bathing in the sand. Have I mentioned before that overcast days are amazing for portrait lighting! There are no harsh shadows. The light is evenly spread out.

I’m not usually one for labels, fashion and name brands, but my daughter’s dress… Can we just talk about how amazingly cute it is?! I went back to buy it after passing over it the first time. I knew I had to when I was still thinking about it the next day, about how adorable she would look in it and it in photos. It’s Isaac Mizrahi.

The more relaxed you can get, the better you’ll do.” -Isaac Mizrahi

I think this quote applies to so many things to include photography and myself! I have a way of over complicating and over thinking things sometimes.

However, photography is a comfortable, fun, creative spot for me. I love it! What’s yours?

I’m not really sure what the faces are about in the photo below. LOL. But It’s crystal clear they’re family!

Ferry Beach is a Maine summer destination, but in recent years they’ve had their share of erosion issues. You can find out more and donate to the Ferry Beach Association here.
